Press
renders and leaks have surfaced to give an idea of what we are to expect from
LG’s event come May 27.
I am
particularly excited for the G3 which is going to be undoubtedly LG’s flagship
for 2014.
From
what we are seeing, LG is continuing to build on its signature design concept
which we saw debut with the G2 last year. The whole idea of removing operational
buttons from the side and placing them on the back of a smartphone seemed
ridiculously bold at that time. But with the debut and subsequent success of the G2, it
has become brilliant concept which went on to the G2 MINI and the G FLEX for
the year 2013 and resurfaced in 2014 with the successor to the widely acclaimed
OPTIMUS G PRO, the G PRO2.
The
aim for this entire concept from my perspective is dedicating the entire
aesthetic of the phone’s form factor to the most important aspect of a modern
day smartphone – the display. Less bezels means more display size and more display
size means a better viewing experience (especially for the 2K display we hope
to get on the G3). I expect the concept going to the G3 to get a lot better.
This
smartphone is coming out to meet some stiff competition posed by existing flagships
of 2014 most notably; HTC’s ONE M8, SAMSUNG’s GALAXY S5 and SONY’s XPERIA Z2.
Although
the leaks show a brushed metal finish on a removable back, it remains
unclear whether the phone will be plastic or metal overall. We can but wait to
find on May 27. Other specs that we expect include;
A
Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor
3GB of
RAM
32GB
on board storage
A 5.5
Quad HD Display
A 13MP
camera with Optical Image Stabilization
I haven’t
been this excited for a smartphone since the Galaxy Note3 and for this one, I simply
can’t wait.
